About a year ago, I posted a blog post with many of the house designs we had gone through, ending with what we thought was our final design.
However, that did not end up being our final design. A little bit after Baby J was born we had to redesign it again due to some zoning rules about size and potential structural issues.
My husband is finishing up all the small (but immensely important!) details for this plan, our actual final design! We will be getting our building loan within the next week, and then breaking ground in the next couple months!
Above is the front view of the house. I’m so excited to have a front porch and stone fireplace to enjoy! The main part of the house is two story log with the living room downstairs and bedroom upstairs.
This is the left side of the house. The extension off the log portion (front and center of this drawing) will be stick built with wood siding inside and out. This part contains the kitchen and bathroom. By building it this way, all the plumbing will be in one area of the house, and we won’t have to run any plumbing or heating through the log walls.
Here you see the right side of the house with the stone chimney and more windows to the upstairs bedroom. The foundation will be part cement with structural stone over top, and the piers holding up the porch are stone. We will be doing all the stonework ourselves, and we’ve gotten a little practice already!
This is the back view of the house that faces into the woods. The back extension with all the windows will be a dining area to start, but that room could easily be turned into a bedroom if needed. Because the house is built on a hill, we also have a walkout basement. The basement will be unfinished to start, but we could add a bathroom and bedroom or extra living room down there if we ever wanted.
Here you can see a few more details of the floor plan.
We are so excited as progress is happening! As we keep telling people, “We’ve almost started!” 🙂 God is good!
