Meet my Main Characters

Meet my Main Characters

S.K. Jacklyn

I thought it would be fun to introduce my main characters in Twins. I spent a lot of time with these “people” and when my story is ready for more readers, I’m sure you will fall in love with them too! So without further ado…

Roy

Roy is the main protagonist in Twins. For those interested in the personality tests, he is a ISTP-T (Introverted, Observant, Thinking, Prospecting, Turbulent). This means he prefers to be alone than with others, he is pragmatic and logical when it comes to assessing others and situations, however, he is sporadic when it comes to decisions and tasks, and he is fairly insecure about himself, despite his seemingly confident attitude.

Roy is an 18 year old prince of Leoninus and he grew up as an only child. Near the beginning of the story, he is cocky and shirks his responsibilities, but Roy’s growth is huge over the course of the story. Roy is medium sized in stature, white, has brown hair (which he wears short) and brown eyes. His favorite color is red and his favorite food is roasted pig (though he also likes desserts a lot). Roy often portrays a confident and sometimes even prideful and defiant attitude, but this is mostly because he is insecure. As the prince, he has a lot of people to please. His greatest fear is letting those he loves– especially his father– down. Roy has never had many true friends, though he has developed positive relationships with many people in the kingdom.

Roy’s logical versus emotional mindset contrasts with other characters in the story, especially Christa, Eleanor, and Celia, and his sporadic nature plays a big part in his decisions. Not everyone could decide in just a few minutes that he was going to sneak into enemy territory to make an daring rescue. However, if he hadn’t, the whole kingdom would have been lost. Roy’s desire to please others and not be a disappointment could be disastrous, but as he grows, it turns into a desire to do what is right, even if it isn’t what he “feels like.”

So while at the beginning of the story, Roy may not seem like the hero his country deserves, he turns out to be just the hero that those he loves needs.

Christa

Christa is the secondary main character in Twins. While she does not appear in the story until a little later, she is important for many reasons. Christa is an INFJ-T (Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Judging, Turbulent). She prefers to be alone, overthinks decisions, relates well to others, acts on feelings, and is often insecure. Interestingly, Christa has the same personality type as I do. This makes writing her character very easy and fun, because my response would be very similar in most situations.

Christa is also 18, and she grew up as a peasant orphan girl in a small village in Leoninus. She was raised by her adoptive grandmother and went to work in Ravenshire when she was 16. Christa is prone to letting herself get bullied and downtrodden, however no one really dislikes her, she is just too easy to pick on. She is kind and softhearted and would do anything for anyone else, even at her own expense. She’s had few friends, but she had an especially close relationship with her “granny” (adoptive grandmother) and develops a bond with Princess Celia when given the opportunity. Christa is very beautiful, though she sometimes has a hard time accepting it. She has long chestnut brown hair that she usually wears in braids wrapped around her head, and striking hazel eyes.

Christa’s kind caring personality brings light and hope even in the darkest places, and she inspires connections among those around her. Christa grows in her self confidence and self worth as the story goes on, but she experiences major growth in leadership and assertiveness in my sequel Sisters.

Celia

Celia is Roy’s 16 year old fiancee and princess of Ravenshire. She has blonde curly hair and blue eyes, and though she is reaching adulthood, she still looks to be barely more than a child. Though she is not in Twins as much as some readers might hope, she plays a much greater role in Sisters. Unlike Roy and Christa, Celia is extroverted with her ENFP-A  personality type ( Extraverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Prospecting, Assertive). She is bubbly, feeling, connecting, positive, and has few doubts about herself or those around her. This gives her an almost childish attitude about life, though she is really quite mature. She is likable and makes friends with everyone she can. Unfortunately, some of the story events crush her spirit and her personality does change as tragic events shape the world around her. She has a hard time adjusting to the way things are, compared to how she thought they would be. She connects well with the other main characters, but feels guilt about the turn of events in the story.

Eleanor

Eleanor is Roy’s mother and the queen of Leoninus. She has the same personality as Christa and me,  INFJ-T (Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Judging, Turbulent), though her personality sometimes manifests in different ways. I dig into Eleanor’s character even more in my prequel Beloved.

Eleanor is quiet, soft spoken, and emotional, and she plays a stereotypical worried mother to Roy. She is often nervous and ill, and she relies heavily on her husband’s care. Because of this, she does not have many queenly duties, but when she is required to entertain guests, make acquaintances, or appear publicly, she does so with grace and perfection. She is still quite young (only 36 at the time of Twins) and though illness has aged her some, she is known to be Richard’s beautiful queen. She has a pale complexion that contrasts her black hair and hazel eyes.

It might have been good for Eleanor to find more things to do, because she spends most of her time indoors sewing, reading, and worrying about her husband and son. When she was younger, she loved the great outdoors and horses, but her illness has become a setback. Despite her and Richard’s hasty marriage the day after they met, her love for him is unending, and he is also her best friend to whom she tells everything. She is excited at the prospect of Roy’s marriage, and in Sisters develops a close relationship with Celia.

Richard

Believe it or not, Richard was a villain in the first draft of Twins. I have changed his character a lot since then, because I grew to like him and I also realized that this story needed a strong king and a loving husband and father. King Richard is an ESTJ-A (Extraverted, Observant, Thinking, Judging, Assertive), almost the exact opposite of his wife. He is outgoing, logical, decisive, and a strong leader. His strong personality is likable but it can sometimes overwhelm those around him. This makes him an especially great king, because his people love, respect, and admire him.

When Richard is angry, it’s intimidating, and you might fear for your life, however, the people who are close to him know there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of. Despite his sometimes gruff or boisterous attitude, Richard is extremely proud of his son Roy, and very loving and tender to his wife.

Richard looks like an older version of Roy, but sometimes people don’t notice it because he is much stockier and has a beard. He is eight years older than Eleanor, about a foot taller, and 100 pounds heavier. They make quite the pair. Richard’s character is also explored more in Beloved, the story of Eleanor and Richard’s romance.

Well, there you are! I hope you enjoyed reading about my main characters, I’m sure you’ll be hearing more about them in the future! 🙂
