We have owned our land for just over a year and it’s amazing how far we’ve come! If you’re newer to my blog and haven’t seen all our land and house related posts, here they are: House Designs, We bought Land!, Land Progress Update, Life Update, New House Design, and Building Update.
Since my last building update two months ago, a lot more has happened! Here are some highlights:
We got the basement in!
At the time of my last update, we had a big hole on our property and a few footers. Now, we actually have a basement. It is so cool to be able to go into part of our house!
We started on the stone work
Though our basement is concrete, we will have stone work around the base. This is mostly for looks, but it adds support structurally too. This has been where most of our efforts have gone in the last couple months. We won’t be able to work on it much longer because the mortar can’t be used below freezing. This job will have to be finished in the spring, but what we have is looking really nice!
We continued to work on the shed
Our shed now has walls and part of a roof. It is covered with a tarp so it is more waterproofed. Now that the foundation is done, the house is top priority, but it is so nice to have a mostly finished shed to store all our tools and supplies.
We moved some logs
This may not seem super exciting, but it was kind of a big deal because the logs are thousands of pounds and we thought we would have to hire this out and do it all in one day. However, our good old truck “Betsy” did not disappoint and handled them beautifully! We now have enough logs by the sawmill to get a good start on milling.
We milled the first log for the house
Though we weren’t quite ready to do all the logs yet, we were excited to get the first log onto the mill and cut it to size. Only about 60 more to go! 🙂
We got the well in
They had to drill 285 feet, but we now have water on the property! They are getting the pump installed soon, and once we have electricity we’ll be able to use it. No more hauling water to the land!
We got the septic tank in
This was another job that we hired out, but the septic tank is in and connected to the basement.
The next things on the agenda are getting electricity, putting up the floor system, and milling and putting up the logs!
