A-Z Bookish Tag

A-Z Bookish Tag

S.K. Jacklyn

I don’t always do blog tags, but E.G. Bella recently did this fun bookish tag. Since I love talking about books, I couldn’t resist! The original tag can be found at KristinKravesBooks. Without further ado the A-Z Bookish tag!

A. Author you’ve read the most books from

C.S. Lewis - IMDb

That would be C.S. Lewis. I’ve read the 7 Chronicles of Narnia books, the 3 Space Trilogy Books, Screwtape Letters, Mere Christianity, and On Stories. Possibly one or two others as well, but that’s at least 13 books by C.S. Lewis!

B. Best sequel ever

Lois Lowry on 'The Giver' and the book's new sequel | EW.com

Son by Lois Lowry. I really enjoy The Giver Quartet, and while the first book (The Giver) is amazing, my favorite in the series is the last book: Son.

C. Currently reading

J.R.R. Tolkien Photo: The Return of the King | Tolkien books, Tolkien, The hobbit
Home-Making: Miller, J. R.: 9781929241354: Amazon.com: Books

I’m currently reading two books: The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien and Homemaking by J.R. Miller. I would recommend both!

D. Drink of choice
I would say tea, chai being my favorite. I also enjoy black tea, jasmine, and many herbal teas. In addition to tea I like milk (and almond milk) and hot chocolate.

E. E-reader or physical book
Definitely physical book! I’ve never been a huge fan of reading books on a screen. I’ve done it a couple times and it can be handy, but physical books are way nicer. 🙂

F. Fictional character you probably would have dated in high school
This is kind of a weird question, so I won’t overthink it. As a pre-teen I always really liked Prince Caspian, so I’ll go with that. 🙂

G. Glad you gave this book a chance

Speaker for the Dead - Wikipedia

Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card. I read and enjoyed Ender’s Game and decided to read the rest of the series. After getting a little bit into this second book, I thought it was weird and creepy and didn’t like it. I decided to persevere and I’m glad I did! It actually turned out to be really interesting and thoughtful and many of the things I didn’t like at the beginning made sense.

H. Hidden gem

Review: The Chemical Garden Trilogy by Lauren DeStefano – Heart Full of Books
The Siren Turtleback School Library Binding Edition , Pre-Owned Library Binding 0606400737 9780606400732 Kiera Cass - Walmart.com

The Chemical Garden Series (First book: Wither) by Lauren DeStefano and The Siren by Kiera Cass. Both Wither and The Siren were books that I found and read a chapter or two of at the library. I’d never heard of either before but thought the cover and synopsis looked interesting. Those days at the library I put them back, but then returned another day to check them out and read the whole thing. I really enjoyed both!

I. Important moment in your reading life
Two important moments were when I realized I didn’t have to finish every book I started and that I could read more than one book at a time. I used to always start one book, read it until it was finished, then start another. Sometimes this was helpful, but there are too many good books in the world to continue reading ones that don’t interest you. And I’ve also found it helpful to read 2-3 books at a time, such as a fiction and a nonfiction.

J. Just finished

The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien | Open Library

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien.

K. Kind of book you won’t read
Erotica, horror, and books with a lot of language.

L. Longest book you’ve read

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5): J. K. Rowling, Mary GrandPré: 9780439567626: Amazon.com: Books

I think that would be Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix. I didn’t realize this book was over 700 pages until E.G. Bella mentioned it in her post!

M. Major book hangover because of…

The Giver Quartet by Lois Lowry | Goodreads
Which Hunger Games Book Storylines Should've Been In The Movies?
Amazon.com: The Chronicles of Narnia: 9780066238500: Lewis, C. S., Baynes, Pauline: Books

I don’t think I’ve really ever had major book hangover, but The Giver Quartet, the Hunger Games, and Narnia are always series that I don’t want to end.

N. Number of bookshelves you own
Currently 3.

O. One book you’ve read multiple times

The Little House (9 Volumes Set): Laura Ingalls Wilder, Garth Williams: 0046594062994: Amazon.com: Books

There are many books I’ve read multiple times, but the Little House Series is one I’ve read multiple times at different parts in my life. I read it a lot when I was younger and a couple years ago I re-read the whole series and still really enjoyed it.

P. Preferred place to read
Outside. I’ve always loved to sit outside, lie in the grass, or even climb a tree to read. Recently, it’s been sitting in a camping chair on our land with a nursing or sleeping baby.

Q. Quote that inspires you
I don’t necessarily think about quotes a lot, but one I like when thinking about writing or other things is “When you want to quit, remember why you started.”

R. Reading regrets
I think the biggest thing would be not reading more nonfiction earlier. I’ve always loved novels and fiction, but there is so much goodness in nonfiction that I wish I would have read more good nonfiction when I was younger.

S. Series you’ve started and need to finish

Orson Scott Card Ender Wiggin Saga 6 Books Collection Pack Set (1-Ender's Game, 2- Speaker For The Dead, 3- Xenocide, 4- Children Of The Mind, 5-A War of Gifts, 6-Ender in Exile):

I mentioned the Ender’s Game series above and how I’m glad I gave the second book a chance. However, after starting the third book I lost interest and never finished the book or the series. So maybe I’ll go back to it sometime, but I guess we’ll see.

T. Three of your all time favorite books

The horse and his boy BOOK 3 (BOOK 3 Chronicles of Narnia),BOOK 3. (The Horse and His Boy, Book 3): C. S Lewis: 9780439861366: Amazon.com: Books
Lois Lowry on 'The Giver' and the book's new sequel | EW.com
The Hobbit | Progeny Press Literature Curriculum

It is so hard to choose! There are so many good books and good series out there, but here are 3 of my favorite fiction books:
The Horse and His Boy (From the Narnia Series) by C.S. Lewis
Son (From the Giver Quartet) by Lois Lowry
and The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien.

U. Unapologetic fangirl
Lord of the Rings. I’ve been especially fangirling over this recently because I’m reading the books and we just watched through all the movies, but I do really enjoy Tolkien’s story, characters, and worldbuilding.

V. Very excited for this release more than others
I don’t really keep up with book releases, but I am super excited for E.G. Bella to publish Cabin Girl! I was privileged to read an earlier draft of it, and I’m so excited to read the finished version!

W. Worst bookish habit
I don’t think I really have any bad bookish habits. The only thing I can think of is that because I’m a fast reader, sometimes at climactic moments in a book, I will read so fast that I miss half the page and have to go back.

X. X marks the spot: Pick the 27th book from the top left shelf

Noah: Man of Resolve (The Remnant Trilogy): Tim Chaffey, K. Marie Adams: 9781683440741: Amazon.com: Books

Noah :Man of Resolve, the 2nd book in the Remnant series by Tim Chaffey and K. Marie Adams. This is such a good series and one I want to re-read sometime soon!

Y. Your latest purchase

Delicious!: A Novel: Reichl, Ruth: 9780812982022: Amazon.com: Books

Though I have a lot of books, I don’t buy very many. However, I do get quite a few books as gifts (because everyone knows that’s what I like 😉 ) so the most recent book gift was Delicious by Ruth Reichl.

Z. Z snatcher–book that kept you up way too late

Lord of the Flies - Plugged In

Lord of the Flies by William Golding. I don’t remember much about this book, but I started this chilling tale at about 8pm during a thunderstorm. So I couldn’t go to bed and had to finish the whole thing. 🙂
